One digital home, with membership decisions still made by the Board
United Community Services needed a clear digital home for Redland Community Centre, Wynnum Community Place, Homeless United and Safe By The Bay. Visitors needed to find practical community support, while individual and corporate members needed a simple way to join or renew online. Taking a payment could not replace the centre's membership decision: paid applications still needed to wait for Board review, with staff able to manage the outcome and maintain the membership register.
Our approach
Designed and built a unified website presenting the centres and programs as one family of local services. Crisis contact, volunteering, meals and belonging, and hall hire pathways were brought together so visitors could find the support or community activity relevant to them.
Integrated Square with individual and corporate membership applications. Applicants complete their form and pay online, but a paid application remains pending Board review rather than automatically becoming an approved membership.
Built an admin dashboard where staff can approve or reject applications, with written notifications and a membership register covering voting eligibility, expiry and renewal history. This retained the centre team's decision-making process while moving the administration online.
Kept refunds and renewals explicit. A declined application has a separate refund path; renewals use a personal payment link rather than automatic billing. Payment collection, the membership decision and any refund are distinct steps in the workflow.
Provided a visual CMS so the General Manager can update page copy and images without calling a developer. This gives the centre control over everyday content alongside the membership administration tools.
Online applications without losing the centre's review process
The centre can accept membership applications and payments online, retain Board review and manage its membership register without spreadsheets. Visitors have one place to find the wider family of services, and staff can manage membership decisions, notifications and renewal history in the same digital environment. Personal renewal links avoid automatic billing, while the separate refund path supports declined applications. The visual CMS also lets the General Manager maintain everyday website content.
