It’s no secret that social media is a huge part of society. In fact, Hootsuite’s 2020 digital report recorded a total of 3.4 billion social media users worldwide. It also stated that there are roughly 2.4 billion monthly active users on Facebook, 1 billion on Instagram, 800 million on tik tok, 381 million on Snapchat and 340 million on Twitter. 

 Social Media is growing every day. Not only this, it has grown to have a huge impact on the way consumers behave and spend their money. Consumers buy from places they trust, and social media is the perfect space to allow customers to ‘get to know you’ in a more intimate way. 

Here are some reasons why you need a presence on social media: 

Huge Audience with a low cost (relatively speaking) 

As mentioned above, there are 3.4 billion people on Social Media. With the right social media strategy, you can create content that can be shared, and seen by millions. Sure creating a TV ad is cool, but it’s an expensive process and it’s something most smaller businesses simply cannot afford. 

With the exception of paid ads, all social media accounts are free. Which means your budget for social media doesn’t have to be exceedingly high, yet you can get the same results as you would for a billboard, or an ad on TV. 

Show consumers why you exist 

For all businesses, it’s important to understand your brand’s purpose. With so much competition, you’re far more likely to get noticed if people connect emotionally with your values. Social media gives you the space to express your values, through storytelling, imagery and emotive content.  

A brand that consistently and effectively communicates why they exist, appeals to the limbic brain system. This controls emotion, trust, inspiration and loyalty- all things that persuade a customer to buy. Emotion plays a powerful role in consumer spending habits. 

Gives your brand a personality

It’s an opportunity to create a conversational environment and for brands to establish a more personal connection with consumers. Having a social media account can allow you to participate in social conversations and gives you the platform to tell the world your brand’s values and beliefs- a powerful emotive tool. 

Customer convenience 

By having a social account, it provides more touch points for the client. If they have a question about your product, they can check your social accounts or ask you via instant messenger.
